First mobility activity in our Erasmus+ programme is complete

Iva Gavrilović has completed her job shadowing activity at the Harun Farocki Institute in Berlin.

First mobility activity in our Erasmus+ programme is complete

From February 3rd until February 15th, our frequent collaborator, volunteer and workshop mentor Iva Gavrilović took part in the first part of our Erasmus+ programme ''Cineclub Zagreb and Europe: the advancement of members' knowledge for the development of the association's future educational programs''. She spent 2 weeks job shadowing experts at the Harun Farocki Institute in Berlin and gained invaluable experience, competences and knowledge.

During her time at the Harun Farocki Institute, she immersed herself in archival research, analyzing films and materials to comprehend Farocki's methodologies, including his essayistic approach, visual research practices, and critique of production relations. Additionally, she attended the "AI as Work: Terms and Conditions of Contemporary Image and Knowledge Production" Institut collaboration workshop and lecture series at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, engaging with experts to explore the  intersections of artificial intelligence, labor, and visual economies. Furthermore, she participated in the Harun Farocki Institute's guest program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig, attending exhibitions and workshops to investigate how Farocki's work influences contemporary artistic and research practices.

In the two weeks she gained valuable insights into the operations of the Harun Farocki Institut as a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and expanding Farocki's film and writing legacy. She learned how HaFI actively engages the public through collaborations with institutions like the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam and the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig, effectively extending Farocki's work into contemporary contexts. The performative lectures she attended had a significant impact on her. This format, which blends artistic performance with academic discourse, challenged traditional presentation methods and encouraged a more dynamic interaction with the audience. Such experiences have inspired her to incorporate similar approaches in her work at Kinoklub Zagreb, aiming to foster critical thinking on images and develop creative audiovisual solutions.

Additionally, she enhanced her skills in curating and producing publications that integrate Farocki's work with contemporary commentary from film experts. This experience underscored the importance of contextualizing archival materials to maintain their relevance and engage modern audiences. Overall, these experiences have equipped her with concrete skills in public engagement, performative presentation, and creative publication, all of which she plans to apply in her future endeavors.

The evaluation of the mobility will take place at Kinoklub Zagreb, where Gavrilović will present her research findings to an audience consisting of the Kinoklub Zagreb filmmaking community and the general public, who will serve as evaluators through feedback and discussion. The presentation will be recorded and shared with the Harun Farocki Institute, for their review and additional input. This ensures that both organisations are involved in assessing the outcomes of the mobility. Also the documentation and evaluation of the outcomes will be published online on our website to be accessed by the interested public as well as members of the organisation.
