I. Screening and Masterclass: From filming intimacy to filming intimately
Friday, January 16th 2026., at 17:30 - 21:00 / Dokukino KIC
The screening of Stefan's film Looking for Horses will take place at 17:30, followed by a masterclass From filming intimacy to filming intimately at 19:30.
17:30-19.00
Looking for Horses is a film about a friendship between the filmmaker and a fisherman who lost his hearing during the Bosnian war and retreated to a lake to live in solitude. The filmmaker, son of Bosnian parents, struggles to communicate as he lost his mother-tongue because of a stutter. Despite their speech and hearing limitations, a strong friendship unfolds between the young man and the veteran, as the fisherman shares his world of the lake. / 88 min
19:30-21.00
Stefan’s masterclass, From filming intimacy to filming intimately traces the trajectory of his voice. From a silent gaze of fascination to a stuttering, intimate and subjective way of bonding. Rather than speaking on achievements, he will speak about the questions that drive him, and the doubts, insecurities and silences that can surround the creative process. He highlights his use of the camera, as a tool to create bonds, to listen and think through, kind of like a pen. Through clips of old work, inspiring references, live readings and opening of some of his current research and film-in-development, Stefan will attempt to share his creative process with all of its different branches and currents. / 90 min
II. Workshop Session: Questioning the question
Saturday, January 17th, 2026. / 10.00-17.30/ DHFA
The following day, we will have a workshop, Questioning the question, specialized for non-fiction filmmakers and their work in progress projects. Each participant will present their project and research question, or a struggle/concern they are currently dealing with and want the group to think about. Through tailored feedback methods the group will work on each project collectively, through discussion, gossip, proposed assignments, affirmative response, to name a few tactics. By the end of the day, each participant will leave with new perspectives, angles and potential paths to their project they can test. The newly developed questions and the proposed assignments can help them to make further steps in their process.
This one-day intensive workshop is intended for advanced filmmakers seeking feedback on their project. All interested authors currently working on a documentary or hybrid film in development or any stage of production are welcomed to apply until January 4th, 2026. to radionice@kkz.hr with the following materials:
-
Contact details
-
A brief description of the project you are working on
-
5 - 15-minute video excerpt (this can be a rough cut or part of the film)
-
A question you wish to ask related to your project (this will be something you will present to the group - and this can of course change)
The workshop has room for 5 participants with their work in progress projects, while 10 additional participants can attend to participate in the feedback, without presenting their project, which in itself has proven to be a very inspiring and enriching experience. If you are applying to attend as a feedback participant, please indicate this specifically in your application. In that case, write a few sentences about your motivation and send a brief CV.
The workshop and lecture will be held in English. Masterclass and workshop are free for all participants and audience. The program is organized by the Kinoklub Zagreb in collaboration with Dokukino KIC and DHFA.
